Revolutionizing Oral Health: Dr. Emily Stein’s Microbiome-Focused Approach

A health emergency involving her grandmother led Dr. Stein, Co-Founder and CEO of Primal Therapies, to pioneer a microbiome-focused oral health solution. Uncovering a link between invasive dental procedures and increased stroke or heart attack risks, Dr. Stein has proven the critical role of healthy gums in preventing systemic issues.

Driven by a personal mission, she biohacked her grandma’s oral microbiome, founding Primal Health to combat oral dysbiosis. Rejecting traditional methods, Dr. Stein advocates a ‘carrot and stick’ approach, guiding the oral microbiome toward a more beneficial existence.

$390 billion is spent annually on global oral care, with 1 in 2 people suffering from dental diseases alarming statistics demonstrating the need for change. Dr. Stein’s innovation with Daily Dental Care for people and TEEF for LIFE for pet challenges the status quo.

About the Inventor

Dr. Emily Stein is working to redefine the landscape of oral and systemic health. Her leadership is driving the development of cutting-edge microbiome modulatory products, while unraveling the intricacies of biofilm-related oral and systemic diseases.

Her biotech background has included multiple fields including the sympathetic nervous system, infectious disease diagnostics, exosome biology and cancer diagnostics, pulmonary fibrosis, and periodontal disease. Her work has resulted in 18 issued patents.

Dr. Stein has 18 patents, has delivered over two dozen professional lectures on the global stage and has earned numerous awards and accolades, making her a respected authority in the realm of oral microbiome and soft tissue inflammation.

Dr. Stein's journey of building lean start-ups and delivering transformative clinical outcomes has set a new standard for excellence. Her guiding principles include prioritizing patient needs and assembling a passionate, results-driven team. Her pursuit of innovative solutions has demonstrated that an omni-channel approach is the key to revolutionizing the healthcare industry.

She earned a B.A. in Anthropology at the University of Iowa, and a B.S. in Microbiology and Immunology. There, her work explored the interactions between M. tuberculosis and alveolar macrophages, laying the foundation for her future scientific endeavors.

Dr. Stein completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine, in the Department of Immunology & Rheumatology. Her work yielded insights into the neuroendocrine-immune axis and its role in autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. Her research uncovered the significance of endogenous cardiogenic steroids and led to the development of a small molecule approach to stimulate regulatory B cells - ultimately reducing autoantibody production. Her work has resulted in a cost-effective treatment for myasthenia gravis, making a profound impact in low-income countries.

She earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology at the UC, Berkeley. Her research, focused on serine/threonine and tyrosine kinase-dependent signaling pathways in bacteria and biofilm development, showcased her dedication to pushing the boundaries of scientific understanding.

The microbiome modulatory technology that she has developed hold promise in addressing an array of diseases that range from dental cavities and periodontal disease to cancer and diabetes. Dr. Stein’s technologies have the potential to revolutionize agriculture and veterinary practices. Some of her technologies have garnered the attention of high-level government agencies.

Dr. Emily Stein's relentless pursuit of excellence has made an impact on the fields of science and healthcare.
